Shannon

Tell us about yourself, your family and where you live!

I’m Shannon and I live in Los Angeles, CA. I’m a super mom raising a super active family. Trying to keep up with them is a real big task!

What’s your favorite thing about being a Smiley member?

My favorite thing about being a member of Smiley360 would definitely be the Missions and the customer service. I say customer service because each Mission I have received was always neatly packaged and never damaged. The presentation and the time Smiley360 puts into preparing each of our Missions let me know that they really care about their members.

What has been your favorite Smiley Mission you have ever done and why?

The Mission I have enjoyed the most was the Centrum Flavor Burst Mission. I enjoyed the flavors, and loved sharing them with family and friends. We still buy them to this day.

How do you share when you’re on a Mission?

When I’m on a Mission I love to share through Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. I also think that actual interaction with those I share with helps to really get people to try new products. Others are able to see you try out a product and you can then share the same experience with them.

Do you think it is important for brands to listen to their customers? Why?

I think that it is really important for brands to listen to their customers. Without our opinions, products would not make it to the shelves. As the consumer we provide valuable information that is needed to help make the product better.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

If I could go anywhere in the world, I would love to go to France. I enjoy the culture and they have awesome food.

What brands or products would you love to see on a Smiley Mission soon?

I would like to see Missions where we can try household products or electronic gadgets.

We love your comments! Share your reaction below.

Smiley360 Membership Guide: Retail Reviews

Smiley360 Membership GuideWe have another lesson for you this week and it’s all about using the Retail Review Sharing Tool.

For some Missions, you’ll have the opportunity to write a review on a retailer’s website (such as Amazon.com, Walmart, etc.) This is a helpful way to share your opinion with other consumers who are considering buying a product, and earns you 50 points.

The Four Steps To Retail Reviews

Retail Review

1. Form Your Opinion

We are sure you can think of what to say about the product, but here are a few questions to ask yourself if you’re not sure where to start:

  • What are the product’s advantages?
  • Is there something you don’t like so much?
  • Do you think the product is well-priced?
  • How easy or difficult was the product to use?
  • Did you like the color/smell/form/taste/etc.?
  • What surprised you the most about the product?
  • Do you have any recommendations for what the brand should change?
  • Did you share this product with family and friends? What did they think?

2. Write Your Review

Once you have formed your opinion on the product, it’s time to share what you think! Here are some tips for writing your review:

  • Write your review from your own personal point of view.
  • ALWAYS mention that you received the samples for free. Just paste a phrase such as this at the end of your review:

“I received PRODUCT NAME for free. Opinions are 100% my own.”

  • Check your spelling and grammar! Make use of spell-checking tools.
  • Write as much as you want because it is your own honest opinion and feedback – and that counts!

3. Post Your Review

We will give you specific instructions for where you can submit your review. Some of the most common retailer websites are amazon.com, walmart.com and walgreens.com.

4. Submit Your Review

Submit your review on your Mission Page and allow up to 7 days for us to read and approve it. The most common reasons why we would need to reject your review is if it did not mention the word “free” or if the screenshot is too small or not easy for us to read.

How To Take A Screenshot

In case you don’t know how to take a screenshot on your computer, or would like to know an easier way, we recommend you check out this super easy tutorial. It covers all popular computer systems.Should yours not be among them or should you still require more assistance, don’t hesitate to contact us.

Why Write A Retail Review?

Here’s why you should take advantage of retail review opportunities on your Mission:

  • Your review will be read by many other people
  • Your review can help other consumers make an informed decision on a product
  • You will receive 50 points for your efforts

And that’s it! Got questions? We have answers. Let us know in the comments below!

Big Brands & You: Share The Love

Four Hot Topics Debated By The Smiley360 Advisory Board—Have Your Say!

On Tuesday, December 2nd we held our final Advisory Board call of 2014! Members of the Smiley team were joined by some of our most influential members and bloggers to discuss new happenings at Smiley. Not familiar with our Advisory Board? You can read recaps from our first two calls here and here.

1. Thoughts On The New Website

smiley360-originalOur brand new website turned four months old recently and we asked our Advisory Board, what do you think so far? Overall the member feedback has been positive on the new website and our board was no different. Our board members raved about the new, simple look of the website and how much more user-friendly everything has become.

There was a lot of praise for the new “all-in-one” Sharing Tools that eliminate the need to share with each tool individually–you can “do it all with one button!” Specifically, one member of our board praised the Retail Review Sharing Tool. Gone are the days of emailing screenshots and waiting for points!

What are your thoughts after four months on the new website? Let us know in the comments!

2. Do You Trust Retail Reviews?

Making it easier for you to submit retail reviews made us wonder, how trustworthy are online reviews?  Our board came to the conclusion that trustworthiness boils down to a few things; what type of product is being reviewed? And, how thorough is the review?

ID-100249121Moms tend to trust reviews of products like children’s medicine because who better to trust than other parents like you? Additionally, a detailed review shows that the reviewer has really taken the time to provide insight into the product.

Another factor to consider is where the review is posted. The consensus among our board members was that they tend to trust reviews on established retailer sites like Amazon and Walmart and will filter through positive and negative reviews to find out exactly what others did or did not like.

Do you trust online reviews? What kind of reviews are most likely to trust?

3. Why Did You Sign Up For Smiley?

Our members join Smiley because they like to review products before they buy them and share their findings with their friends and family (oh and of course the free stuff!)

ID-100290335We asked our board members about their other online communities and much to our delight, many said Smiley was their favorite! They described Smiley as “welcoming”, “easy and inviting”, “not exclusive” and they felt that we are “using their comments productively.”

Why did you sign up for Smiley?

4. Picking The Right Children’s Cold Medicine

Our last topic of discussion was something near and dear to most moms’ hearts—children’s cold medicine. We wanted to know what makes moms choose a specific brand and are they loyal to the brand they choose.

influenza-156098_1280What we found is that there are a few major factors in deciding which medicine to use. Having a personal history with the brand was at the top of most lists as well as a universally trusted brand name. Some said they were not necessarily brand loyal however, and would be willing to research a new brand if the reviews were good.

The conversation switched to cold medicine ingredients and while we always want to avoid ingredients we can’t pronounce, the consensus was that effectiveness is king.

How do you choose cold medicine for your child?

Until Next Time!

Have anything to add to the conversation? Do you agree with the points our board members made? We always want to hear from you so leave any thoughts you may have in the comments below!

Meredith

Tell us about yourself, your family and where you live!

I am a wife of ten years to my wonderful husband and a mommy to two little boys who are ages six and two. We live in Austin, TX with our dog, cat, turtle and chameleon!

How did you discover Smiley360?

I discovered Smiley360 from a blog called hip2save. My friend said to hurry over to see if you qualify for a Mission and I went over and signed up and never looked back.

What’s your favorite thing about being a Smiley member?

Of course I absolutely love the Missions and sharing my feedback. What I truly enjoy is the fact that my friends and family now ask me frequently if I gotten any Smiley goodies lately. My nine year-old niece comes to my house and asks if I have any goodies to share with her. I have been able to share products, coupons, and my experience with the program, as well as raise awareness-all of which has been fantastic.

What has been your favorite Smiley Mission you have ever done and why?

The Mission for Nature’s Bounty Hair, Skin and Nails Gummies has been my favorite so far.  I was fairly unfamiliar with the product, so being able to try a full sized product to test the true product effectiveness was great.  I have since purchased four bottles.

How do you share when you’re on a Mission?

I share with all of my Smiley Sharing Tools, such as Facebook, Twitter and Smiley Connect. I think I have made the most impact by sharing with my mommy group (that I meet with once a week) and my book club.  Also, my husband and I frequently have friends over for dinner, which is another way I have been able to share my experiences. My family who does not live nearby loves to get the coupons. I help them to find the best deals!

Do you think it is important for brands to listen to their customers? Why?

It is incredibly important for a company to stay in tune with its ideal consumer.  Social media and technology are really changing the way we communicate about products and there is a need to respond very quickly to consumer feedback.  Positive as well as negative experiences can spread rapidly, so it seems like a task that companies need to have a really strong grasp on to stay in tune with customer likes and dislikes.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

I would go to Ireland.  My husband and his family are Irish and I think it would be amazing to take my kids there to learn about the culture and family history.

What brands or products would you love to see on a Smiley Mission soon?

I would love to see face washes, creams and serums.  I also would like to see things for the kitchen.  I love to cook so anything to try for the kitchen – food, beverages, cookware, utensils, etc.

We love your comments! Share your reaction below.

Photos, Videos and Your Smiley Missions

What types of photos and videos do you like to make? Do you have any pro-tips for other Smiley members? Let us know in the comments!

Nothing makes us smile quite like seeing you in action on your Missions. For this edition of the Smiley Membership Guide, learn all about sharing photos and videos…

Strike a Pose!

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so why not save yourself some typing by sharing a photo on your Mission? Sharing your photos gives other consumers insight into how the product looks and works, helping them with their future purchase decisions.

When taking a photo on your Smiley Mission, consider the sol (2)following tips:

  • Make sure we can see you and the product clearly
  • Make sure the photo is focused and not blurry
  • Have fun with it – think about the setting, what or who else can you include in your picture?
  • Don’t forget to smile!

Calling All Smiley Filmmakers

Video reviews are becoming more and more popular on social media and our Smiley members are no exception! It can be hard to find the right words to use when writing a review about a product so what better way to get your point across than with a video?

You may be wondering, how do I make a great video? We’ve put together some simple steps that will help you shine on camera:

  • Keep it short and concise – under 60 seconds
  • Make sure we can see you and the product clearly
  • Ensure the room has good lighting so we can see you
  • Ensure the room has no background noise so we can hear you
  • Mention that Smiley360 provided you with a free product for your review
  • Don’t forget to smile!

Now that you’re an expert…

Strut Your Stuff!

There are a number of ways to submit a photo or video. The first being through your Mission. If there’s an option to earn points for sharing photos and videos, you’ll see it on your Mission Page.

You can also submit your photos and videos on any one of your social networks—Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and YouTube. When you share, make sure you tag us and use the official Mission hashtag!

And if you’re feeling shy, you can send your photos and videos to community@smiley360.com and we’ll happily share them with the brand.

Out of Ideas?

You’re ready and raring to share your photos and videos but what should you post? We rely on our members to provide amazing content but we know it can be hard to come up with regularly. Here are some of the more popular types of photos and videos we see:

  • Unboxing: Show us that exciting moment when you open a new Smiley kit for the first time!
What’s inside, what does the product claim to do? Are you excited for your mission?
  • Testing it out for the first time: We want to see you in action with the product we sent you! Share before and after photos of your dirtiest clothes after using a detergent. Record yourself enjoying the latest food Mission in the kitchen. The possibilities are endless!
  • Testimonials: Video testimonials can be very effective in spreading the word about a product. Some things to think about—How have you been enjoying the product? Did it live up to its claims? How did your friends react when you told them about the product?

These are just some ideas to get you started in your budding photography and filmmaking careers. We love to see anything that you submit and it’s one of the big reasons the brands you love want to work with our community.

So don’t be shy! Send us your photos and videos—we can’t wait to see your smiling faces!

What types of photos and videos do you like to make? Do you have any pro-tips for other Smiley members? Let us know in the comments! Until next time…
