Picture1May was Baby Month at Smiley360, and we launched big Missions for new moms and their infants. Here at Smiley, our Senior Director of Business Development Elizabeth is getting ready for her first baby, a boy due September 3rd! We asked her some questions about her pregnancy — read on to see what she had to say.

What part of becoming a mom are you most excited about?

Oh, my goodness there’s so much I’m looking forward to that it’s hard to pick just one thing. The thing I think about most is how much I can’t wait to meet my sweet little baby boy and hold him in my arms. For months now, I’ve been picturing what he’s going to look like and wondering what his little personality will be like . . . will he be just like my husband or more like me? Or maybe he’ll have his own little ways. For several weeks now I’ve also been feeling him kick and do gymnastics in my belly . . . I just can’t wait to until he’s here and I can shower him with all this love. It’s going to be the best!

What are you most nervous about?

The labor and delivery! I’ve done lots and lots of babysitting and taken care of lots of babies, so I’m not worried that I’ll know how to care for him but the getting him here part . . . that’s definitely something that has me a bit worried. I went into the delivery room with my sister who labored for twenty-three hours and then pushed for four so maybe I’ve seen one of the more extreme labor and deliveries, but hoping mine isn’t as tough! Also, one of my brother-in-laws weighed 11 lb 13 oz when he was born, so hoping my baby isn’t that big. We’re taking a few labor and delivery classes so fingers crossed that helps! 🙂

What’s been the most surprising thing about being pregnant?

The best surprise has been feeling my baby move. I mean I knew it was going to happen, and everyone I’d spoken to had said that it was their favorite part of being pregnant, but I really had no idea what to expect or just how much I was going to love it! It has quickly become my favorite part of being pregnant. It’s neat that he has certain times of the day that he’s really active, and I know just when to expect he’ll be moving … I talk to him a lot during these times and will say things like “Oh, are you saying good morning to your mama?” It’s like we already have little “dates.” I look forward to it everyday! He’s also very responsive to my husband’s voice. Last night we were making dinner, and it’s usually a pretty quiet time for my little one. But, his daddy got up close to my belly and started talking … right away the baby started kicking in there. It’s so much fun!

What products are you looking forward to using once the baby arrives?

Oh, my goodness. I have been very overwhelmed with deciding what my baby needs and what I should buy for him. There’s thousands of options, and I want to make all of the best choices! I’ve really been relying on my girlfriends and sisters who already have little ones for recommendations and tips on the must have items. The one item I’ve been most invested in deciding on is our stroller – since we live in New York, I don’t have a car which means my stroller is going to be just like my little vehicle. We’ve been searching for something that’s durable, not too huge, lightweight (so I can carry it up and down subways) and one that can grow with our baby from infant to toddler. It’s a pretty big task! We’re finally registering this weekend so I’ll be making my final decision soon. Wish me luck, and if any of the Smiley moms out there have suggestions on baby products – please send them my way!
