This week’s blogger of the week is Kristin W. of Keenly Kristin
Here’s a little bit about her:
When did you start blogging?
Why did you start blogging?
It’s kind of a funny story. I discovered the whole “blog” thing when I started entering giveaways following an episode of “Wife Swap,” where they featured a family that was obsessed with “sweeping.” The next day I checked out what the whole online giveaways were about and I quickly became quite involved in entering giveaways. Then, I started guest reviewing on a few blogs, and after several months, I realized, what the heck? Why not start my own blog? Everybody’s doing it, after all…how hard could it be? Yeah, that’s the rhetorical question that changes your life.
What do you like to blog about?
I, of course, do product and book reviews and giveaways, but I also write about American Idol and Dancing With the Stars. I don’t have a real “niche,” per se…on my blog, you can find lists (I love lists) that cover just about any topic (Like How to Run a Better Giveaway to Top 10 Late Night Guilty Pleasures), infographics, tattoos, humor, and editorial content. For instance, I wrote a lot about the Penn State scandal.
What do you like most about blogging?
Total editorial control. I am a former journalist and PR person, so that’s a biggie.
What’s one tip you’d give to someone who’s thinking of starting a blog?
It is, by no means, easy. Prepare for blogging…read about it, talk to other bloggers, read other blogs, etc. Take note of what works and what doesn’t. Think about the time you will be able to devote to it, what your goals are, and what you will write about. Try to set yourself apart from the 4 million other bloggers out there. There is quite a learning curve, but if you step into the blogging world with a little bit of know-how under your belt, you will be more likely to achieve “success” on your terms.
