Being that this is my first blog post for Smiley360, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Nick, from Richmond, Va. I am currently a graduate student at the University of Texas and will be in New York City for the next couple of months working for Smiley360. I have been to New York a few times before but never for more than a week so this has been a wonderful, extended visit. I have made my way to and from New York in pretty much every way possible and I would like to share with you my opinions of each.
Car- It’s great if you like sitting in traffic for hours and paying a small fortune for parking. Good luck getting out of there with only small scratches and dents.
Bus- Also a great option, and as a bonus, you don’t have to try and find a place to park in the city. But don’t forget to add screaming babies, no legroom, and the smell of B.O. to the mix. If you can look past these small things then it will be a wonderful excursion.
Plane- This is the quickest way to New York. From Richmond it’s only about an hour and a half. Of course, this is not counting the recommended hour and a half cushion you have to give yourself to check-in, go through security, get your pat-down, and then wait for them to start boarding. Tack on an additional $45 for a cab to your hotel if you’re staying in Manhattan.
Train- I saved this for last because it is my absolute favorite way to get to New York. Even in coach class you can almost stretch your legs out straight. The tickets are relatively inexpensive if you get them early and it’s low stress. No waiting in security lines, no traffic on the freeways, and if there are screaming kids, you can always move to another train car. It also takes you straight into Midtown Manhattan so no expensive cab rides.
Of course this is just my personal experience. What are your thoughts? How do you enjoy getting to your favorite destinations?
