Today’s recipe comes from Johnathan, one of our summer community interns.

Looking for that perfect movie night snack or a treat after a long week of exercise and sticking to your diet; or just something yummy, delicious and will fill your tummy? The Bloomin’ Onion Bread will satisfy all those needs and more!

What you’ll need to start cooking:

  • 1 unsliced loaf of sourdough bread
  • 12-16 ounces Monterey Jack cheese, thinly sliced or grated
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup finely diced green onion
  • 2 teaspoons poppy seeds

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Cut the bread lengthwise and widthwise without cutting through the bottom crust. (This can be a little tricky going the second way but the bread is very forgiving.)
  3. Place on a foil-lined baking sheet.
  4. Insert cheese slices between cuts
  5. Combine butter, onion, and poppy seeds and then drizzle over bread
  6. Wrap in foil; place on a baking sheet.
  7. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.
  8. Unwrap the bread and bake 10 more minutes, or until cheese is melted.
